Hyperion 2008.  Mo Willems has gained assurance with each of his easy readers and this title is his best yet. Piggy wants to play outside, but is thwarted by a rainstorm. After Piggy pitches a fit, he and his elephant friend, Gerald notice that the worms are having a fine time in the rain and realizes that they can enjoy themselves outside no matter what the weather. With a minimum of text and and eloquent use of line and color, Willems conveys a range of mood and action that will beguile beginning readers and charm adults as well. The comic timing is spot on. Check out the pages where Piggy thinks the downpour has suddenly ceased, only to discover that the indomitable Gerald has stretched his ear over his friend as an umbrella.     JE R+*
