alvinAlvin’s fears move to the great outdoors in this sequel to ALVIN HO:  ALLERGIC TO GIRLS, SCHOOL AND OTHER SCARY THINGS, when his father decides to take him on a camping trip.  Fortunately, Alvin’s Uncle Dennis shows him a few good tricks before he heads off to the wilderness.  Did you know that dryer lint makes terrific tinder?  Or that marshmallows can be used as earplugs?  Unfortunately for Alvin’s father, a dangle trap works as well on fathers as it does on large, scary animals.  Alvin finds unexpected inner resources—and a friend who is just as timid as he is—when he must rescue his dad from the tree where he’s suspended by his ankle.  We all are enlightened to discover that Alvin’s dad was as big a chicken as Alvin when he was Alvin’s age.  That explains a lot and gives us hope for Alvin’s future.  At the same time, we hope he doesn’t find his courage too soon, since a third in the series would be very welcome.
